Final Reflection

In this class I really enjoyed some topics, such as the Life stages and the Cultural Shock Stages, because both of them can get to affect a person's personality in a certain way. I consider that topics such as equity and cultural awareness are crucial for a person when socializing with other people. I consider that one of my favourite entries was the collage about language beacuse in that way I was able to show how language isn´t only spoken or written, but it can also be physical or painted.
Finally I believe that this blog was fun to do because I got to use diffrent tools and programs that I haven't used before such as soundcloud and pixton.

WRITTING 2: BUSINESS REPORT

Global-Tech antidiscrimination policies

Introduction

The intention of this report is to present the intended course of action concerning our four proposals of inclusive policies for the recruitment, hiring and everyday activities in the company in order to avoid any type of discrimination.

Gender discrimination

No one would be discriminated because of gender, meaning this that the company will be objective and will only make decisions according to the person’s abilities and skills.

Age discrimination

There would be no differences between employees from different generations and ages. In order to promote a healthy relationship among the personnel, an annual integration activity will be held making the employees work in teams with people from different generations.

Schedules and permissions

Employees will work no more than 8 to 10 hours a day. The policy also sets that single mothers will have certain flexibility with their schedules in case they need to take care of their children.

Training

Every six months the personnel will have to attend to several courses in order to have everyone qualified to keep doing their job.

Conclusion

In conclusion our intention is to avoid any type of discrimination towards any of the company’s employees or people that are related to it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I enjoyed writting this essay beacause antidiscrimination and equity are both topics that I consider very interestng and very important for our actual society.
I consider that equity and antidiscrimination policies and rules are not only important in the workplace , but it are also of vital importance in our day to day activities.

WRITTING 1: OPINION ESSAY

National identity: helping the country to progress

Since the beginning of history, mankind has had the need to satisfy a sense of belonging to a place, culture and community, this sense of belonging is commonly known as national identity. By definition, national identity is a sense of a nation as a cohesive whole, as represented by distinctive traditions, culture, and language”. National identity is how people interact and relate to others. People who share a strong national identity are likely to also have similar thinking and as a result, this would help a country to develop and progress.

To my mind, national identity is a crucial factor for a country’s progress and development; this is due to the fact that by sharing the same mind set and ideology the country would be modernized in a quicker way and it also could boost the economy in a shorter period.

I consider that an example of national identity helping a country’s progress that should be highlighted is when Germany recovered very quickly from the World War I due to the fact that, by inspiring the people and making them have the same goal and mentality, the Germans adopted a strong national identity which motivated them to work and improve the conditions in which their country was.

In conclusion, national identity is very important for a country, as it affects the stability and relationships among citizens. For a country with a strong national identity it would be much easier to have a quicker and better growth.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I enjoyed writting this essay because it is a very interesting topic and also a very important one when talking about a person's personal identity. I consider that all politicians around the world should consider this factor because in the end, the most importnt thing is to have a rich country in both economic and cultural aspects.

Language collage in art

Here is a collage about language in different pieces of art:

Language in Performing Arts

We chose this image because its relation to language is very close, also to emphasize that language isn’t only written or spoken, but it is also corporal. As it can be seen in the video the dancers express themselves and tell a story just using their bodies to communicate with the audience. As the video goes on, it can be seen that some people in the audience were moved and the purpose of the body language of the dancers was accomplished.

Language in Photography

This picture was selected with the intended purpose of remembering the viewers that even though in our day to day activities spoken language is usually the most important and the one that we use the most to communicate with others, most people forget the barrier that deaf or mute people have to overcome in order to communicate with others. This photograph pictures how to say the word “love” in sign language and, even though most of us don’t know how to use this language, it can be seen that the hands shape figures that are very close to those letters in written language.

Language in Sculpture

We chose the Kryptos sculpture because in it there are several secret messages, codes, and puzzles in it, involving in this way language, that the artist also has other sculptures that have fragments of poems, novels and prose from languages from all over the world. Talking about the other image being the Rosetta Stone, it involves language because it has the same text written in three different ways.

Language in Painting

We decided to use the hieroglyphs because in this way the ancient Egyptians were able to communicate and register part of their story. Another reason why we chose this image was that language doesn’t have to be written or spoken, but it can be painted with pictograms such as the hieroglyphs.

Language in Cinematography

We chose the Miracle Worker movie because it is completely focused on language and how Hellen Keller, with the help of her teacher Anne Sullivan, was able to overcome the language barrier that she had and became able to communicate and learn a language, even though she was blind and deaf.

Language in Music

Disney is an American entertainment company, but the origin of the princesses that we all know is not in United States. Does someone know that snow white is German? And what about Ariel’s country? Look at this video and learn more about some Disney princesses’ native language.

Language in Architecture

After the ark of Noe, the Tower of Babel was created in order to exalt the creator’s might, but instead of that the tower exalted the creation. The humans were living there and based on the bible, God gave them several languages so that they could disperse throughout the Earth, even so, every human in the tower spoke to each other in a specific language.

Language in Literature

This picture represents a saga of books named the Lord of the Rings; we chose this picture because of the Elvish language that appears in the saga. Elvish was created by J. R. R. Tolkien, he based its grammar, letters and pronunciation in Finnish, Greek and Latin.

Culture-shock comic

Check this comic about culture-shock in Australia:

I decided to use the stage of the honeymoon beacuase I think that it's very interesting and probably the best part of moving to a new country. I also think that this comic about the oneymoon stage was very fun to make, because I consider that Australian slang is very complicated yet fun to learn and use.

Interview to an expat

Check out this interview to a Canadian expat:

My personality

Personal introduction

Personal introduction

My name is Arantza Navarro Mendoza; I’m 19 years old and currently studying my major in Industrial and Systems Engineering at Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey, campus Edo. de México.

A sport I feel passionate about is horse-riding, but currently I haven’t been able to practice it, due to the fact that it is a very expensive sport, and also because my parents didn’t want me to since I got hurt when I was younger and almost had a surgery.

I’ve always considered myself as a curious and very hardworking person, especially because,   since I can remember, I’ve always loved reading almost any kind of books, from anthropology and scientific to science fiction and fantasy themed books.

Several years ago I used to read approximately from 6 to 8 books per year without taking in account the books that were in my school’s educational plan, but nowadays I don’t have the time I used to have, due to all the homework assignments and projects that I have to do.

In the future I would like to return to my passion and practice horse-riding again, but now I would like to practice Dressage instead of equestrian trail. I would also love to have more time to read all the books that I have postponed.

My biggest goal for the near future would be to study abroad for a year, and also to graduate. Talking about long term goals I want to get a job in an international company and to travel around the world.
